BLOG | SAA WORLD RECORD ART CHALLENGE
by Kevin Preston | 19th September 2015
I returned to Life Drawing Class this week, after our summer holiday, and everyone said the same thing – that it was so good to be back! This week was portrait week but Lee took the pee out of me saying, “It’s portrait week and you haven’t drawn her face” lol, silly me! I’m more interested in drawing the figure at the moment and ran out of time, but next time it’s portrait week, I’ll remember to focus on drawing the face instead.
While we were there, I looked at some leaflets someone had brought in about a World Record Art Challenge. Included with the leaflet was a little 64 by 89mm piece of card. After reading the leaflet I was excited. The Society for All Artists (SAA) are going to combine all the little pieces of artwork they receive and place them together onto giant display boards, thus creating ‘The Largest Number of Original Artworks Exhibited Under One Roof’. The artwork will become part of a permanent exhibition at SAA HQ in Newark.
You’ll also get invited to a special open day where you’ll be able to see the full impact of the exhibition in person. I’m excited :) You can enter as many times as you like, using any medium you like, so there’s really no excuses to not join in, especially as the closing date isn’t until 31st December 2015. There’s plenty of time to become part of this challenge, I’ve decided I’m going to be entering a little Sophie Lawson drawing which I’ll post on the site before I send it off :)

A couple of things I thought important –
Q Can I use any medium?
A Yes as long as your painting is dry, and its surface is protected to prevent damage in the post. Pastel works should be ‘fixed’ using fixative.
Q Do they have to be on the same paper as that supplied?
A You can supply your entry on any surface you like as long as your painting is exactly 64 x 89mm (21/2 x 31/2 inches) and can be easily mounted on to a display board to be exhibited.
You can find the full rules, FAQ and an entry form on the official website.
