BLOG | ARTIST | PAUL STOWE
by Kevin Preston | 28th December 2014
Paul Stowe is an Artist I have been following on DeviantArt for a while now, you can find him at paul-shanghai.deviantart.com. On the 10th December, he posted a poll with a pretty simple question, “Which of the following should I upload to DeviantArt? Or should I just discard the lot?” … well, I clicked the poll, and looked at the 3 drawings Paul was asking for feedback on. All three were impressive, and all three would have instantly been added to my page if I had drawn them, but I became attached to the second drawing, a drawing Paul has left untitled. You can see the three drawings here – I kept looking at the second drawing, trying to work out what it was I was finding so captivating…in the end I had to post a comment, telling Paul “that one has to be added, if not I’ll add it myself and link you lol :)” … the poll currently has 34 votes to add “Gone with the Wind” (the first drawing), 20 votes for the “untitled” and 12 votes for “Philippine Eagle” (the third drawing). Paul replied to my comment and said that he doesn’t think he will be uploading it, I can’t believe he doesn’t feel any of these works are worthy of being included in his Gallery, but I am true to my word, and here is the Untitled Drawing in all it’s glory! I love the expression in her eyes, the contrast of dark and light, but overall I just find myself starring at this drawing for periods of time getting lost! Pauls personal story appears to be similar to mine in that he found Art after a massive absence from his life. For me it was just over 15 years, for Paul, it was a 20 year absence. Paul is now producing some stunning work, the way he renders textures and especially water is simply breath taking. I will include some of my favourite Paul Stowe Artwork at the end of this post, but he is just getting better and better. It turns out my all time favourite Paul Stowe Art piece is actually his too. The drawing above, “Silence“, is my favourite, Paul posted it to his DeviantArt back in September and I said to Paul at the time “I love the soft, delicateness of this drawing. Very beautiful!” I love this drawing, I also love how the drawing still includes Pauls excellent use of water texture amongst the softness, I think it really works and gives the drawing a very unique feel. He has also just announced on his DeviantArt page that this drawing is going to be getting a sequel in 2015, I am now very very excited! 2014 was a great year for Paul, and I wish him all the success in 2015 and beyond.
