This past 3 days I have been non stop learning from my “How to Draw Lifelike Portraits from Photographs” book by Lee Hammond. I started this book about a month or so ago, but I’ve kept going off drawing portraits instead of learning from the book lol
Well, on Friday I decided to crack on with the book instead of doing anymore drawings, and it’s been a lot of fun and so rewarding! I even sat down here learning while the F1 was on, I don’t have a TV down in my art studio so instead I streamed it on me iPhone :) It felt very cosy cos it was raining outside and it just felt cool being in here drawing with the F1 on.
So that’s what I’ve been up to this past few days, oh yeah… I also have been drawing lots of spheres in my sketchbook for a few weeks now, but I’ve struggled trying to get my head around how the shadows will look from various light sources.
I searched online but couldn’t find any help, so instead, I went into town and bought a Ping Pong ball and used my bedside lamp to move around the ball watching how the shadows moved. I studied this for a while, and I think I’ve got my head around it now. I also recorded me doing this, so I may stick it up on YouTube, cos I personally would have loved someone to have done this when I was looking for help.
At the very least I’m gonna capture some stills from the video for reference to help with my future Sphere drawing. I also watched a film on Saturday called Mysterious Skin and there was this gorgeous actress on there called Michelle Trachtenberg, I think she’s gonna be the next portrait I draw :)
